Overpass strike closes part of major highway in Metro Vancouver

Nov 4, 2026 | 2:28 PM

LADNER — Portions of a major Metro Vancouver highway has been shut down after a tractor-trailer struck an overpass, causing significant damage.

The BC Highway Patrol says in a statement that the crash happened at about 10:40 a.m. on Highway 99 at Ladner Trunk Road in Delta, where a Kenworth tractor-trailer hit portions of the overpass.

A photo from the highway patrol shows the overpass with chunks of cement missing, while debris litters the highway below.

Police say the highway’s southbound lanes and the overpass itself have both been closed to ensure public safety, and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

The driver of the truck stayed at the scene, and police are working with Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement to determine what caused the collision to happen.

The provincial Transportation Ministry website says there have been seven overpass strikes on B.C. highways this year not including the latest collision.
