Kelowna lands back-to-back World Senior Curling Championships

Nov 2, 2026 | 11:03 AM

Kelowna is getting another shot at the world curling stage, landing the World Senior Curling Championships for both 2027 and 2029.

World Curling announced the two events will be held at the Kelowna Curling Club, with the 2027 championships running April 24 to May 1. The 2029 event is scheduled for April 21 to 29.

The city has a long history of hosting international curling, including the 1986 World Women’s Championship, the 2002 World Juniors, the 2018 World Mixed Championship and the 2023 Pan Continental Championships. Kelowna also hosted the Olympic Qualification Event in 2025.

The 12-sheet Kelowna Curling Club can accommodate more than 1,000 spectators.

Club general manager Jock Tyre says the championships are particularly meaningful after an earlier attempt to host the event was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

World Curling says it is confident local organizers will deliver a strong experience for athletes and spectators, welcoming the opportunity to return for a multi-year agreement.
