Vancouver pedestrian dead after being hit by SUV during heavy rain

Oct 27, 2026 | 8:59 AM

VANCOUVER — A pedestrian has been killed in a crash over the weekend in Vancouver where police say heavy rain could have been a factor.

Vancouver police say the crash happened just after midnight early Sunday morning when a 45-year-old woman was crossing Main Street at a marked crosswalk at National Avenue near downtown.

Police say an SUV struck the woman and she was thrown about 30 metres.

First responders at the scene tried to resuscitate the woman but she was pronounced dead at about 1 a.m.

Police say it was dark and raining heavily at the time of the crash, and the driver of the SUV is co-operating, with neither alcohol nor substance use considered to be factors.

It’s the second time a pedestrian has been hit in the city in recent days, after a seven-year-old girl was struck at East Pender Street and Victoria Drive three days earlier and suffered minor injuries.
