Diverting Waste from Landfills

ReTHINK Waste Grant program relaunched with broader scope

Oct 27, 2026 | 2:21 PM

The program aimed at keeping waste out of the North Okanagan landfills is returning and is going to better support public initiatives.

The Regional District of North Okanagan has updated its ReTHINK Waste Grant program to support 100 per cent of costs for eligible projects aimed at reducing waste.

The program previously supported 50 per cent of costs, but has been broadened to reduce barriers for potential applicants with community-led waste reduction initiatives.

Community groups, individuals and non-profits can apply for funding, though the RDNO said projects that focus on Reduce and Reuse by keeping materials and products in use as long as possible will be prioritized.

Potential projects the ReTHINK Waste Grant program could support includes events or educational resources; replacing single-use items with reusable ones; the active collection of salvageable materials; and small scale and community composting.

Parties interested in accessing the grants to launch a project in 2027 can apply through the RDNO website. The deadline to apply is December 15.
