Another Closure

Burtch Road closes to northbound traffic for two weeks

Drivers using Burtch Road will need to find another route starting today.

The City of Kelowna says Burtch Road will be closed to northbound traffic between Sutherland Avenue and Highway 97 for about two weeks as part of the Burtch Road extension project.

Signed detours will be in place for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. The city is encouraging commuters to use the designated detour routes and consider alternate routes where possible.

Construction in the area is expected to continue through the end of October. To reduce the impact on daytime traffic, crews will shift construction activities to overnight hours, working between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.

The Burtch Road extension project includes transportation and sanitary sewer improvements and is intended to eventually create a continuous north-south corridor between Glenmore Road and K.L.O. Road.

The city is reminding people to follow posted signs, fencing and directions from safety personnel while travelling through the construction area.

Drivers can check current road conditions and plan their route through the City of Kelowna’s road report.
