Vipers Outshoot Silverbacks, Fall 5-2 in Preseason Action

Vernon, BC:  The Vernon Vipers dropped their third straight preseason game Friday night, falling 5-2 to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

Despite the loss, Vernon carried much of the play and held the edge in shots and scoring opportunities, but Salmon Arm was able to capitalize on its chances.

Toms Trockis and Josh Denes scored for the Vipers, while Mason Kim picked up his third assist of the preseason. Will Johnson and Mykolas Skadauskas also recorded assists.

Lane Maarhuis made seven saves on 10 shots in 33 minutes of action, while Leandro Djuric stopped five of six shots over the remaining 26 minutes.

Vital Dinis, Ethan Facchina, Jared Rothman, Alexis Beaulieu and Luca DeCubellis scored for Salmon Arm. Silverbacks goaltenders Noah Mavin and Kasey Fuson each made 13 saves on 14 shots.

Vernon went 0-for-4 on the power play and killed off four of five Salmon Arm opportunities.

The Vipers wrap up their preseason schedule Saturday night when they host the Trail Smoke Eaters at Kal Tire Place. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m., with tickets priced at $10.
