A 27-year-old woman has died following a two-vehicle collision Tuesday night on Highway 97 in Lake Country.

Lake Country RCMP were called to the collision near Lodge Road at about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 1.

Police say a northbound Toyota Tacoma was attempting to turn left into a pullout across from Lodge Road when it was struck by a southbound Acura.

The Acura’s 27-year-old female passenger was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by Lake Country firefighters.

She was taken to hospital by ambulance, where she later died from her injuries.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and came to rest partially blocking the southbound lanes of Highway 97.

The southbound lanes were closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene. Traffic continued to move through the area using the northbound lanes.

A BC Highway Patrol collision analyst and the BC Coroners Service attended the scene.

Police say both drivers are co-operating with the investigation and alcohol is not believed to have been a contributing factor.

Investigators are continuing to examine other potential factors.

Anyone who witnessed the driving behaviour of either vehicle before the collision, saw the crash or has dashcam footage from the area is asked to contact Lake Country RCMP
