Arrest made following grass fires Tuesday

A man has been charged in connection to the two fires started in the grass lands north of Vernon near Swan Lake.
The fires sparked in the grassy fields near the Highway 97 onramp and near the southern edge of Swan Lake’s nature trail around 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, and local and provincial firefighters were quick to respond and extinguish the blaze.
Shortly after the fires sparked, a witness who noticed the smoke start to billow surveyed the scene with binoculars and spotted a suspicious individual fleeing the scene.
“The actions of the suspect drew the attention of other witnesses, as well,” Cpl Tania Finn, Media Relations Officer with the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, stated.
