De Filippo’s late goal lifts Rise to 3-2 NSL win over Roses

MONTREAL — Jessica De Filippo scored in the 86th minute to lift the visiting Vancouver Rise to a 3-2 Northern Super League victory over the Montreal Roses on Saturday.

Montreal’s Noemi Paquin had scored five minutes earlier to tie the match 2-2 at Stade Boreale.

Elyse Bennett of the Roses opened the scoring in the eighth minute. About eight minutes later Anna Bout scored the equalizer and the first half ended in a 1-1 tie.

Josie Longhurst gave Vancouver its first lead of the match with a goal in the 71st minute.

The Roses led in ball possession (51 per cent to 49) and outshot the visitors 12-10, including 5-4 on target.

The Rise took five corners while the Roses had four. And Vancouver took two of the three yellow cards issued in the match.
