Okanagan College launches program for flexible learning access

May 25, 2026 | 3:00 PM

Okanagan College is expanding access to post-secondary education with the launch of a new Open Studies program.

The program allows students to take individual credit courses without enrolling in a full diploma or degree. The initiative, which begins with Fall 2026 course offerings, it is also is designed to give learners a flexible entry point into post-secondary studies. Students will be able to enroll in select credit courses that were previously only available to those admitted to full programs.

College officials say the program is intended for a wide range of learners, including adults returning to education, recent high school graduates, working professionals and community members exploring personal interests.

“Learning doesn’t always start with a program,” said Dr. Samantha Lenci. “Open Studies is that way in.”

The program also expands access to the Hall School of Business and Entrepreneurship, offering more than 20 business courses directly, along with additional courses available through prerequisite pathways.

Open Studies is currently available only to domestic students, with participants able to take up to two courses per term. All courses will appear on official Okanagan College transcripts and may be transferable to other post-secondary institutions.

Courses will be taught by faculty with industry experience and are eligible for transfer across British Columbia and beyond. An online information session is scheduled for June 18 from 4 to 5 p.m.

Registration for Fall 2026 is now open, with full details available at Okanagan College Open Studies.
