Coldest Night of the Year walk going at the end of February
The annual Coldest Night of the Year walk is fast approaching.
The event that sees people take to the streets of Feb. 28 is in support of the Vernon branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA Vernon), with a goal of raising $40,000 for the North Okanagan Rent Bank.
The rent bank provides interest free, short-term loans individuals and families experiencing housing instability so they can pay rent, utilities, and secure housing.
“We are excited to see so many people already registered. It tells us there is a desire locally to assist individuals and families who struggle to pay the rent because of a financial emergency, such as needing new eyeglasses or having to travel to a funeral,” Julia Payson, CMHA Vernon executive director, stated.
