Rockets surge past Tri-City as momentum builds toward Memorial Cup

Jan 8, 2026 | 11:03 AM

The Kelowna Rockets are heating up at exactly the right time.

Kelowna powered past the Tri-City Americans 5–2 on Wednesday night at Prospera Place, fueled by the return of World Junior stars Tij Iginla, Tomas Poletin and tournament MVP Vojtech Cihar, and a goal in the Rockets debut of Parker Alcos.

The win signals growing momentum as the team charges into the second half of the season and toward the Memorial Cup, which Kelowna will host in May.

The Rockets struck for four first-period goals, with Iginla opening the scoring, followed by Alcos, Mazden Leslie and Connor Pankratz. Poletin capped the night with an empty-net goal late in the third period, sealing the victory.

Harrison Boettiger stopped 28 shots as Kelowna outshot Tri-City 37–30.

The latest win comes as the WHL trade deadline arrives today (Thursday) at 5 p.m. PT.

The Rockets now travel to Portland for a weekend doubleheader. Fans can watch live on Victory+ or listen on 104.7 The Lizard or stream at Rocketfan.ca.
