Central Okanagan sees impact of tips as part of Crime Stoppers month
The Central Okanagan is joining communities across Canada in observing Crime Stoppers Month this January, highlighting the role the program plays in keeping neighbourhoods safe.
Last year, Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers received 1,052 tips, resulting in 73 arrests, 15 rewards totalling $5,100, and $25,000 in recovered property. Outreach efforts focused on fraud prevention for seniors and promoting personal safety for youth.
Since its launch, the program has logged more than 34,000 tips, contributing to over 3,000 arrests, more than $200,000 in reward payouts, and $94 million in recovered property, cash, and illegal items.
Balzor Singh, president of the Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers Society, said the program relies on strong community partnerships.
