SD22 considering selling two unused properties

The school district that serves Greater Vernon is looking to sell off two undeveloped properties in the Bella Vista area.

School District 22 said it owns two properties on at the ends of Lakeridge Court and Amber Drive, which have a combined size of 6.8 acres, that it has been holding onto in case a new school was needed in the area.

However, it said property was in a four kilometre radius of three other schools, and that the potential expansion did not seem to be required anytime soon.

“The long-range facilities plan anticipates that nearby schools Ellison Elementary, Okanagan Landing Elementary and Fulton Secondary have sufficient capacity to accommodate projected enrolment for the foreseeable future,” SD22 said on its website.

“Although there continues to be residential development in the area, the school age population is declining due to low birth rates offsetting any increase from families moving to the area.”

SD22 added it still owns the undeveloped Heritage Park property that could be used for a new school should the need arise.

The school district wanted the public to provide input on the proposed sale of the properties. People can submit their feedback by January 31 through SD22’s website.
