Heavy snow forecast for B.C. mountain highways
Drivers traveling B.C. mountain highways are being warned to prepare for hazardous conditions as a heavy snowfall is expected over the next two days.
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt, where up to 30 centimetres of snow could accumulate between Tuesday and Wednesday. The agency says a frontal system moving into the Interior will bring heavy snow to the Coquihalla Summit, with snow continuing through Wednesday.
The Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass is also under a snowfall warning, with 15 to 25 centimetres expected across the West Columbia region, including Revelstoke. Highway 3 near Kootenay Pass is forecast to see similar snowfall totals.
Environment Canada says travel may be difficult and visibility could be reduced at times. Vehicles not properly equipped may be turned away from highways. Motorists are encouraged to monitor conditions and updates at drivebc.ca before heading out.
