UPDATE: Power restored in Vernon’s north end

Power has been restored to the 1,777 customers affected by the outage Wednesday morning in the north end of Vernon.

The outage began at 7:33 a.m. and was attributed to a tree falling on the lines.

B.C. Hydro sent a crew to the scene and had power restored to all the affected properties shortly after noon.

Several hundred properties lost power after a tree fell in North Vernon Wednesday morning.

B.C. Hydro said the outage that was affecting 1,777 customers began at 7:33 a.m., Dec. 17, and crews were dispatched to the scene to resolve the issue.

Among the properties that lost power were the mall and the Walmart.

B.C. Hydro said it expected power to be restored by 12 p.m. Wednesday

This was one of several outages across the Okanagan and Shuswap Wednesday morning.

B.C. Hydro said there was another outage in Vernon linked to a downed tree, though it was only affecting about five properties in the 6500 block of Scott Road. A crew had been assigned to the outage but there was no estimated time for when power was to be restored.

A downed tree also resulted in a large outage in the North Shuswap.

Power was out for 1,718 customers between Celista and Anglemont. The power went out there at 6:17 a.m. and B.C. Hydro had assigned a crew to the outage though did not have an timeline for when the power would be back on.
