Inclusive play space

Playground opens at Mission Creek

Mission Creek Regional Park opened its new $480,000 playground Tuesday for kids of all abilities.

It features wheelchair-accessible equipment, sensory-friendly areas, and a soft rubber surface for safe play.

The design was shaped by community input.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan manages 2,100 hectares of parkland and 86 kilometres of trails.

The initial budget for the project was $175,000 but that cost increased dramatically following public input called for the need for a more inclusive space. The rubberized surface added around 60 per cent to the budget.

*Editor’s note: this story has been corrected to reflect the cost of the project as $480,000 not $320,000 as originally reported.
