Flight Form Police, Assault with a Weapon

Assault, flight from police sentences to be handed down in late August

Jul 28, 2025 | 10:17 AM

A man on trial in two different cases will learn his sentence later this summer.

Dale Babiy appeared in Vernon court in April, where he pleaded guilty to one count of flight from police, one count of dangerous driving, and one count of possession of stolen property valued at $5,000 or more.

The charges stemmed from his arrest in December of 2024 when police reportedly had to deploy a spike strip to stop Babiy in a stolen vehicle, then had to chase him down on foot after he tried to flee.

Babiy was also wanted for charges of assault with a weapon and uttering threats, of which he was found guilty this past spring.

Babiy was to appear in court for a sentencing hearing on July 23, but the B.C. Prosecution Service told Vernon Matters the defence counsel was granted an adjournment.

The matter will be back before the courts ands sentences will be handed down on August 28.
