Interior Health hit with record fine

Interior Health is on the hook for a $783,000 fine.

Crews disturbed asbestos during telecom work at a Kamloops care home.

The fine was handed out back on June 11.

WorkSafeBC says there was no safety plan, workers weren’t protected, and staff concerns were ignored.

Some of the same issues had happened before.

It’s the biggest fine IH has ever faced, nearly triple last year’s penalty after a drug exposure at Penticton Regional Hospital.
