A B.C. Highway Patrol police dog was instrumental in making Okanagan roads safer.

An operation involving the B.C. Highway Patrol Integrated Impaired Driving Unit and the Traffic Safety Unit – Police Dog Service in the Central and South Okanagan, including West Kelowna and Penticton, saw 27 files involving drug and contraband tobacco seizures.

The operation that ran between March 16 and 20 also saw 18 impaired driving prohibitions issues, two commercial vehicles removed from service, and 35 tickets issued to commercial vehicles and their drivers.

“Many people don’t realize that BC Highway Patrol is trained to do more than look for unsafe driving behaviour,” Inspector Lori Orstad, the Officer in Charge of Special Traffic Operations at BC Highway Patrol, said.
