A man who was arrested on warrants after trying to flee from police will be back in court at the end of the month.

Dale Babiy, was arrested in Vernon on Dec. 30 after police responded to a suspicious vehicle. Police used a spike strip to stop the car, but the suspect attempted to flee on foot, only to be caught by officers.

Babiy was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, dangerous operation of a conveyance, flight from police, and driving while prohibited/license suspended.

Babiy will appear in Vernon court on January 30 to consult legal counsel. He had not entered a plea as of time of publication.

Babiy was also charged on outstanding warrants of one count of assault with a weapon and two counts of uttering threats during his arrest.

The B.C. Prosecution Service said the man entered a not guilty plea in that case on January 8, and will appear in Vernon court for a trial on February 5.

These two cases will be tried separately.

Babiy remained in custody on these two files.
