A local group has launched a campaign to help youth struggling with or at risk of homelessness.

BGC Okanagan has launched its Prevent Youth Homelessness Campaign to help bring youth in from the cold.

Thanks to a recent $50,000 donation, helping BGC Okanagan get closer to its $125,000 goal, the organization will expand its drop-in programs to offer safe, welcoming spaces where youth in need can spend their time.

Through the programs the youth can also access services, mentorships, and other supports to help them address family instability, poverty, or mental health struggles.

“Sometimes, all it takes is one positive connection to change the trajectory of a young person’s life,” Richelle Leckey of BGC Okanagan, said.

“Our staff provide not only a safe environment but also encouragement, mentorship, and pathways to essential resources.”

The drop-in programs for youth facing homelessness are available in Vernon, Kelowna, West Kelowna, Osoyoos and Oliver.

The recent donation was made by Dan Martell, a local entrepreneur, author and coach.

“This is about more than preventing homelessness,” Martell said.

“It’s about giving young people hope, the tools to succeed, and the confidence to build a brighter future.”

People can donate to the Prevent Youth Homelessness Campaign through the BGC Okanagan website.
