The semi truck crash on Sicamous’s Bruhn Bridge was fatal.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) reported at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, that a semi-truck went off the bridge and plunged into the Sicamous Channel between Mara and Shuswap Lakes.

A dive team was called in to work on recovery efforts and a dangerous goods spill report was filed with the Ministry of Environment due to diesel fuel spilling into the channel.

At 7 p.m. Saturday, the CSRD reported the driver of the truck died in the crash.

The bridge was closed during the day but reopened to two-way traffic at 7 p.m., though the speed limit was reduced to 30 km/h and pedestrian access was not permitted.

The recovery of the truck was underway Sunday morning and the CSRD siad traffic may be limited to single, alternating lane during those efforts.

Guard rail repair was planned for Monday.

The RCMP had not provided further details on the crash as of Sunday morning.
