A registered Health and Safety Professional will have his name on the ballot for the upcoming provincial election.

The B.C. NDP named Harpreet Badohal as the candidate for the Kelowna-Mission riding.

“People in Kelowna-Mission need affordable housing, healthcare they can count on, and a more affordable day-to-day life. David Eby and the B.C. NDP have taken action to tackle these challenges. There’s more to do, but this is the leader and the team we need,” Badohal said in a release.

“John Rustad has promised to tear up our Housing Action Plan, which will unlock 300,000 homes for middle-class people. His healthcare policy contains a $4.1 billion cut. Those would hurt the people of my community. We can’t afford the risk.”

The party pointed to a number of policies enacted in the past seven years to support people in the riding, the Central Okanagan, and the entire province, including the speculation tax; upgrading hospitals; eliminating MSP premiums; lowering ICBC rates; and hiring more police officers and giving them more power to address public drug use, repeat violent offenders, and organized crime.

Premier David Eby also backed Badohal’s candidacy, stating “[his] first hand experience as an advocate for workers at WorkSafeBC has given him the skills and experience to fight and get results for the people of Kelowna-Mission.”

The provincial election’s main voting day will be October 19.
