Suspect in fatal Vernon crash dies, charges dropped

The Crown is no longer pursuing charges against a suspect in a Vernon crash two years ago that killed two people.

The BC Prosecution Service tells Vernon Matters charges against 37-year-old Micheal Jordan Rodine were abated this week after they received confirmation that he died.

Rodine was facing six charges, including impaired driving causing death, after a crash on Highway 97 near the Army Camp on Aug. 5, 2022 that killed a 71-year-old man and his 65-year-old wife from Vancouver who were on vacation.

Police said a pick-up driven by Rodine collided head-on with the couple’s SUV.

The charges were laid one year later, and also included two counts of criminal negligence causing death and two counts of impaired driving over .08 causing death.
