Volunteers are vital to many services all year long, but this is the one week of the year they officially get recognition for their efforts.

National Volunteer Week is from April 14-20, and the theme for 2024 is Every Moment Matters.

The City of Vernon is thanking the hundreds of residents who help make the community a better place by donating their time.

“These volunteer contributions help make some programs possible in areas such as Emergency Support Services, Protective Services and Community Safety, RCMP Crime Prevention, Recreation Services, and council committees,” a city news release stated.

Vernon volunteers also serve on various community boards, planning committees for arts, cultural and sporting activities, with non-profit organizations, with social service programs, and more.

Mayor Victor Cumming said volunteering contributes to the lifeblood of the community.

“Thank you to all volunteers for your unwavering commitment and for embodying the true spirit of service. It is through the selfless dedication of volunteers that we strengthen the bonds of our community,” Cumming said.
