Ice reinstalled at Kal Tire Place South

Vernon’s biggest arena has ice again after a ten-day shut down.

The City of Vernon confirmed that the ice surface at Kal Tire Place South has been re-installed, but it will be a while before ice users can get on it.

Kal Tire Place South will be hosting the Vernon Spring Home Show on March 23 and 24 and to accommodate that, crews will be installing the facility’s EventDeck temporary ice flooring once it is safe and appropriate to do so.

The facility’s ice chiller failed on March 9, forcing the ice to be shut down.

That equipment was repaired a few days later but then crews had to re-install the ice and get the logos painted on including for the Esso Cup Women’s U18 National Club Championship, a Hockey Canada event which will be held at Kal Tire Place April 21-27.

“The city would like to highlight the incredible work of staff, who were able to install the ice surface in less than seven days. Typically the installation of an ice surface takes on average 7 to 10 days,” Josh Winquist, communications officer told Vernon Matters.
