The Vernon Vipers went .500 on their BC Hockey League road trip up north against the Prince George Spruce Kings, winning 5-3 Friday night before falling 4-2 to the Kings Saturday.

Luke Bibby and Julian Facchinelli had a goal and an assist, Ewan McPherson scored his first BCHL goal and Ethan David had 29 saves in the Friday victory before a crowd of 1,480 at the Kopar Memorial Arena.

“I thought it was a pretty gutsy effort from our group tonight,” Vipers Assistant Coach Colton Sparrow told vernonvipers.com. “It’s not an easy place to play.”

“It was a good win tonight,” Bibby, a Brantford Ont. product, said. “It’s nice to get two points on the road.”

The Spruce Kings, who are the last place team in the Interior Conference, scored four straight goals in the second period to take Saturday’s contest 4-2, getting two goals from home-town product Linden Makow.

Adam Csabi, with his 18th, and Georgios Stavrianeas (9th), scored for Vernon who ended the weekend at 26-17-1-0. They are fouth in the Interior Conference, two points back of the third place Salmon Arm Silverbacks who lost 4-0 to the Merritt Centennials on Saturday.

Next up for the Vipers will be home games against Prince George on Friday, March 1 and West Kelowna March 2.
