Vernon Vipers sweep games on Island

The Vernon Vipers went two-for-two on their Island road trip in the BC Hockey League with wins over the Victoria Grizzlies and Cowichan Valley Capitals.

On Saturday, Brossard, Quebec product Georgios Stavrianeas netted two goals with two assists in a 9-3 romp over the Capitals before 1,242 fans at the Cowichan Community Centre.

Hank Cleaves added two goals with one helper to help Colin Reay get his 7th win of the season in net.

On Friday, Phoenix native Carson McGinley was named the first star with 1-plus-1 in a 6-4 victory over the Grizzlies before a crowd of 1,174 at The Q Centre in the capital city.

Ethan David was peppered with 50 shots in goal as he got his 17th win.

The Vipers are now 24-14-1-0 on the season, still in 4th place in the Interior Conference, 3 points back of the third place Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

The Vipers are back in action Friday, Feb. 16 when the visit the conference-leading Penticton Vees.
