Asphalt plants shutdown

Utility work continues but paving projects halted

The unusually dry November weather has allowed public works crews in Vernon and Coldstream to make progress on a number of projects.

In Vernon, replacement of sewer and water mains on 33rd Street between 42nd and 43rd Avenues is in full swing, with phase one projected to completion by December 15th.

Paving plants are now shut down for the winter, so the roadway will remain gravel until spring.

In Coldstream, paving on Coldstream Creek Road will also not be completed this year.

The first lift of pavement has been installed, meaning the road will be set up for winter.

Small ramps onto driveways will be installed to make access over the curb easier until the second lift can be installed in the spring.

“This is not ideal, but the forecasted temperatures did not provide any confidence that adequate paving windows would occur to allow for the second lift of pavement to be properly installed,” a public works report to council stated.
