Only One Vote Against

Alternative approval process approved for Silver Star sewer

Nov 21, 2023 | 12:23 PM

The Regional District of North Okanagan will have a new service provider for the Silver Star sewer system.

The deadline for residents to vote against the Alternative Approval Process for the Silver Star Sewer Utility Service that would allow the RDNO to amend bylaws and enter into an agreement with Silverhawk Utilities Inc. closed at 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20.

The service area has an estimated 1,525 qualified electors, and 10 per cent of that population, or 153 electors, would be needed to vote down the approval process.

The RDNO announced there was only one electoral response form opposing the proposal submitted.

With the approval granted, the RDNO will be updating the Silver Star Sewer Utility Service Establishment Bylaw and the Silver Star Sewer Utility Loan Authorization Bylaw and be entering into an agreement with Silverhawk.

The RDNO will borrow up to $4.5 million to facilitate the acquisition, operation and maintenance of the Silver Star Utility at Silver Star Mountain.
