Cadets will begin their annual summer training in Vernon this weekend.

Courses in air rifle marksmanship, drill and ceremonial, fitness and sports and military band all start Sunday, July 16, at the Vernon Cadet Training Centre.

The programs will see cadets learn and develop skills through activities specific to the subject matter.

The summer recruits will also have the opportunity to advance their credentials in the fields related to the courses, such as their marksmanship level qualification and their cadet fitness assessment incentive level.

The courses all run until August 5, with the graduation parades scheduled for August 4 at Dieppe Square on the west side of Highway 97.

It’s not yet known how many cadets will be attending the camp in Vernon this summer, but past years have seen upwards of 1,000 participants.

Vernon Matters has reached out to National Defence for further details on the programs and the number of cadets.
