When people come to Greater Vernon, they will be visiting the “Trails Capital of B.C.”

The Regional District of North Okanagan and Ribbons of Green Trails Society have been given official approval to use that branding from the Canadian Registrar of Trademarks.

One of the area”s best known trails is the Okanagan Rail Trail between Coldstream and Kelowna which opened in 2018. (Photo credit: Okanagan Rail Trail)

The idea originated from the society in 2022 which proposed it to the RDNO board of directors as a way to emphasize the multitude and quality of trails in the area.

The regional district said the success in receiving the official mark through the Canadian Trademarks Act is a result of contributions from many individuals, community groups, businesses, and local governments to the vibrancy and diversity of the local trail networks.

RDNO said the title will promote trail usage in the Greater Vernon area to locals and visitors alike.

“We are thrilled to see recognition of the years of hard work by volunteers, elected officials, business partners and government staff to develop the extensive trail network in Greater Vernon,” Kim Young, director of the Ribbons of Green Trails Society, said. “We hope this will encourage and support continued growth throughout the region for years to come.”

A committee led by the society selected the brand and logo which will be used for marketing, advertising and added to trailhead signage.
