Coldstream home destroyed by fire

A home in Coldstream is a total loss after a fire Friday afternoon.

The two-story house at Torrent Drive and Cottonwood Lane, just a block north of Kidston Elementary, was fully engulfed when fire crews arrived around 3:35 p.m.

The two occupants of the home were taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

“We are told they are doing well,” Fiona Morgenthaler-Code, Coldstream’s fire chief, said.

The only pet, a cat, was not injured.

The fire chief said the house is a “total loss” and an investigation is under way into the cause.

“The cause is not expected to be known for several days,” Morgenthaler-Code told Vernon Matters Friday night, adding the cause does not appear to be criminal.

She was not sure if the occupants, or the house owners, were insured.

About 30 firefighters were on the scene from the Coldstream and Lavington fire departments.

Morgenthaler-Code said security will be on site overnight Friday along with a water tender in case of any flare ups.

The fire chief noted the blaze was first detected by smoke alarms in the home.
