The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP has launched an investigation into the theft of several thousand dollars worth of outdoor gear near Lumby.

Mounties say camping and kayaking equipment was stolen from the Greenbush Lake Recreation Site in Monashee Provincial Park at approximately 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2.

The stolen items include a tent, fire pit, tarps, clothing and an ocean-touring kayak.

Police say a witness reported seeing a large, black, diesel truck in the area at the time and suspects it may have been involved in the theft. The vehicle had a rooftop tent and a lightbar across the windshield.

The occupants of the truck were reportedly fishing in the area and had a Chihuahua dog with them. It’s believed the occupants may be from Kelowna or West Kelowna.

Anyone with information related to the theft can contact Corporal Spencer Hornoi at the RCMP’s Lumby detachment at 250-547-2151.
