Two in hospital, one in custody after shooting at Williams Lake Stampede

One person is in custody following a shooting Sunday (Jul. 3) on the grounds of the Williams Lake Stampede.

Williams Lake RCMP were called to the Stampede Grounds shortly after 3:30 p.m. during the final day of the popular rodeo. The rodeo was underway when several people reported hearing shots.

Police found two people with unspecified injuries. They were taken to hospital. One other person was taken into custody.

Investigators believe the incident was a targeted attack and do not believe there is further risk to the public.

Williams Lake Stampede President Court Smith said in a Facebook message that the thousands of rodeo fans in the rodeo grandstand were safely evacuated.

Mounties are asking anyone with information or video of the incident, to contact the Williams Lake RCMP detachment at 250 392-6211.
