Little progress

COVID-19 vaccination rates stalled in Vernon

Feb 16, 2022 | 11:24 AM

The Vernon/Coldstream health area made very little progress in vaccinating people against COVID-19 over the past week.

Data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) shows that, as of Monday, Feb. 14, only the second dose rates for the 12 to 17 age group saw an increase in Vernon and Coldstream, climbing to 80 per cent.

The vaccination rate for the five to 11 age group remained unchanged from the week before at 46 per cent. The third dose rates for area seniors aged 70 and over also remained flat from the week prior at 80 per cent.

The first dose rate for area residents aged 12 to 17 has stayed flat for two weeks now at 84 per cent, as have the first and second doses for those aged 18 to 49 (83 per cent and 79 per cent) and those who are 50 and over (92 per cent and 90 per cent).

The BCCDC has changed the way it reports vaccination rates, now providing information on regional rates for residents aged 5 and over rather than 12 and over.

The data shows that as of Monday, 85 per cent of Vernon/Coldstream residents aged five and over have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 80 per cent are double-dosed. It also shows that 88 per cent of local adults aged 18 and over have received their first shot and 85 per cent have received both jabs.

As of Monday, 85 per cent of Interior residents aged five and over had received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 80 per cent had received second jabs. The provincial rates for that age group was recorded at 90 per cent for first doses and 85 per cent for second shots.

The centre also noted that the vaccination rates for adults in the Interior were 89 per cent for first doses Monday and 86 per cent for second jabs, while the provincial rates were 93 per cent and 91 per cent.
