Sound, Only Sound is an interactive exhibition that gives participants the opportunity to actively explore sound from different points of view.

Visiting Vernon for a limited time from the Sherbrooke Museum of Nature and Science in Quebec, the exhibit is at the Okanagan Science Centre until March 31.

“We are thrilled to be able to host the comprehensive exhibit Sound, Only Sound to be able to connect our audience with a comprehensive understanding of sound,” said Dione Chambers, Okanagan Science Centre executive director.

“It leads nicely into our May exhibit where we explore the The Way We Hear It: A Community Engagement Exhibition, on hearing loss.”

As part of Sound Only Sound, visitors to the Okanagan Science Centre have an opportunity to:

· Touch sound by playing with fun music instruments and specialized acoustic materials;

· Feel sound through sound quality evaluations, a fascinating branch of psychoacoustics;

· Hear sound differently through music instruments and soundtracks, with newly acquired “sound check” knowledge.

“Does silence really exist? How does sound travel? What frequencies can the human ear perceive? How do you capture sound without hearing it? Can you see sound? You’ll learn the answers to all these questions, and much more,” said Chambers.

The Okanagan Science Centre, located next to Polson Park, is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To learn more about the OSC, go to https://okscience.ca/

The production of this exhibition was made possible in part by the Government of Canada and financial support of the Government of Quebec.
