Off-duty officer and son rescue occupants of capsized canoe

Two men were saved thanks to quick action by an off-duty RCMP officer and his son after their canoe flipped.

On Monday, Sept. 6, the officer with the forensic identification sector and his 11-year-old son who were canoeing on Griffin Lake, 27 kilometres west of Revelstoke, suddenly heard cries for help.

The pair found a canoe that had capsized and two adult males, who weren’t wearing lifejackets, clinging to the flipped boat.

The officer and his son assisted getting the men into lifejackets and brought them to shore, where their families were waiting.
