The Regional District of Central Okanagan has issued a ‘Do Not Consume’ notice for residents served by the Killiney Beach water system.

The RDCO stated that the water system was damaged by the White Rock Lake wildfire, and that the more than 280 properties served by this system should not consume the water.

The RDCO said even if boiled, the water is not safe for consumption. That includes drinking, washing fruit and vegetables, making ice or beverages, brushing teeth, or other food preparation.

People are advised to use alternative water sources like bottled water for the above purposes.

The water in hot water tanks are also considered unsafe for consumption, and those affected by this notice are advised to contact a plumber before draining the tank.

The water can still be used for household cleaning, bathing and toilet flushing.

The RDCO issued the notice following consultation with Interior Health.
