Salmon Arm RCMP warn of surge of theft from mailboxes

The Salmon Arm RCMP is reporting that the detachment has received a number of calls relating to thefts from mailboxes in Blind Bay.

The thefts occurred at community mailboxes where a culprit or culprits pried open the boxes and stole their contents.

One possible witness described a potential suspect as a heavy set person, possibly female, leaving the boxes with a large stack of mail and going to a waiting vehicle. The suspect was wearing a hoodie but no further description of the suspect or vehicle were reported.

The thefts appear to be happening where there are large concentrations of mail boxes, such as at apartments or in high density housing areas.
