Alert lifted for Winnifred Creek Fire in Cherryville area

An evacuation alert has been lifted for some North Okanagan residents south of Cherryville.

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) has rescinded the alert connected to the Winnifred Creek wildfire (#K42042), based on a recommendation by the BC Wildfire Service.

The alert covered properties along the East Kettle River Forest Service Road and Keefer Lake Road.

Addresses rescinded from the alert include: properties along Highway 6 15 km east of Cherryville to 25 km east of Cherryville Properties on the East Kettle River FSR, Kettle River Mainline Road and Keefer Lake Road, including the Keefer Lake Area.

The Wildfire Service said on its website, the Winnifred Creek fire, which was first reported July 18, is an estimated 3,000 hectares, and is classified as out of control.

“Residents are reminded that although the evacuation alert has been removed, the Province of British Columbia is still facing threat of wildfire in the area,” a news release from RDNO stated. “We encourage you to stay connected with up to date information and remain aware of current situations and weather conditions.”
