Crime stats, supporting wildfire efforts, battling opioid epidemic and more in RCMP report
The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP redeployed extra members to assist with wildfire operations while also maintaining regular operations in the second quarter of 2021.
Superintendent Shauna Baher delivered the Q2 report to Vernon City Council on Monday. The figures in the report show there had been 5,319 calls for service in Vernon between April and June this year, 428 in Coldstream and 452 in rural areas around Vernon.
Of those cases, 1,451 in the city involved criminal code violations and 819 involved property offences. In Coldstream the calls involved 90 criminal and 47 property offences, while in rural areas there were 71 criminal offences and 42 property crimes.
The total amount of calls across all three jurisdictions were made up of 5,481 dispatch calls and 718 self generated calls by RCMP officers. That total of 6,199 calls in the second quarter of 2021 were fairly consistent with the 6,144 calls in the second quarter of 2020 (5,384 dispatch and 718 self generated).
