Stripped-down laughs: comedy duo set for Performing Arts Centre shows

Aug 14, 2021 | 2:00 PM

If you are looking for some laughs, the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society will be presenting The Comic Strippers-Fully Clothed! for two live shows at the Performing Arts Centre (VDPAC) on Friday, August 20, at 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

This will be the second cabaret-style event in VDPAC’s return to live performances with its SPOTLIGHT OnSTAGE Concert Series—following two sold-out performances featuring multi-instrumentalist and composer Harry Manx on July 30.

“In this stripped down, two-person version of the full-stage show, members from the cast shed their characters, keep the laughs going–their shirts on! Designed for more intimate settings and smaller venues, this is your chance to get to know the real comedians underneath the bow ties,” stated a news release from Camillia Courts, Promotions and Marketing Director.

“The Comic Stripper’s comedy is so funny and quick! It will be a great night out, with hilarious music, stand-up and improv comedy fueled by audience’s suggestions,” said Artistic Director Erin Kennedy.

Two of Canada’s best improvisational comedians, Roman Danylo and Chris Casillan, take on audience members’ suggestions and create spontaneous comedy sketches right before their eyes.

With the provincial health officer’s 50 per cent capacity limits still in place, patrons will get an almost exclusive up-close experience for the improv comedy show.

Founding member Roman Danylo was trained in improv comedy and after the COVID shut-down, wanted to get back to basics.

“We wanted to perform again as safely as possible, and we’ve found a way to entertain, do what we love and keep everyone safe,” said Danylo.

No stranger to the VDPAC stage, Danylo has performed on the mainstage an estimated 10 times. The duo is celebrating 10 years as a group this year, forming in the fall of 2011.

“We are super excited to tour, do comedy again, and what a great place to start, in Vernon,” added Danylo.

The Comic Strippers Fully Clothed! kicks off in their hometown of Coquitlam before moving to Vernon and the Kooteneys.

Danylo has appeared on CTV’s Comedy Now, Comedy Inc. and Corner Gas. CBC’s Just For Laughs, CBC Radio’s The Debaters, Winnipeg & Halifax Comedy Festivals.

Chris Casillan is a long-time Vancouver-based actor, improviser, comedian and musician and two time Canadian Comedy Award winner.

Tickets are $25 all seats (sold by tables of 2, 4 and 6) and can be purchased now through the Ticket Seller Box Office by calling 549-SHOW (7469) or online at www.ticketseller.ca.
