City of Vernon offers tips for preparing for emergencies
Aug 6, 2021 | 8:30 AM
With the wildfire situation continuing to evolve in the North Okanagan, the City of Vernon is offering some advise for how people could prepare for emergencies.
The city says it’s important to follow recommendations from PreparedBC.
Those recommendations include:
- Have an emergency plan ready well in advance. The plan is essentially a playbook on how to respond to disasters, including wildfires.
- Grab and go bags are also important to have in case of an emergency. They should contain the necessities, such as water, food, flashlights, first aid kit and radio, but also be customized to fit the needs of the household, such as by including having extra medication, pet food, copies of important documents, cash and more.
- People are also advised to prepare their home through FireSmart activities. These measures can help make the structure more protected and safe in case of a disaster.
