The heat is having a major impact on Vernon’s beloved Blue Herons.

Rescue spokesperson Yvonne Piazza said many of the birds have fallen out of their trees and some are dying.

“We need more volunteers to help get them to safety. We have two places rescuing them, one from Oyama, and then they are going to go to the Kamloops Wildlife Park,” Piazza told Vernon Matters.

Any volunteers who can help out are asked to show up at the rookery behind Rosters Sports Club on 53rd Avenue, and people are asked to bring ice.
