B.C. Covid update Wednesday: 44 new cases, milestone for vaccinations

There were 44 new cases of COVID-19 found in B.C. Wednesday (June 30), including 14 within Interior Health.

The totals were reported in an update from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

The new cases bring the overall total in B.C. to 147,621 since the pandemic began, spread out as follows:

35,494 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 12)
85,805 — Fraser Health (up by 17)
5,166 — Island Health (up by 1)
13,162 — Interior Health (up by 14)
7,803 — Northern Health (unchanged)
206 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry noted 816 active cases in B.C. Wednesday, a decrease of 60 from Tuesday. There are 108 people in hospital and 34 in intensive care.

No new deaths were recorded due to COVID-19, leaving the provincial death toll at 1,754 and the Interior Health death toll at 157.

A total of 145,032 people are considered fully recovered from COVID-19, or 98 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry reports 78.4 per cent of all adults have at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 32.8 per cent have two doses. For those aged 12 and older, the proportions are 77.1 per cent with at least one dose and 30.6 per cent with two doses.

Wednesday marked a major milestone for the vaccination program with over five-million doses going into arms so far.

Over 785,000 doses of vaccine have been administered throughout the Interior Health region with 32 per cent of those being second doses.
