Eventually the show will go on, but in the meantime, the Greater Vernon Performing Arts Centre is getting hair and makeup done.

The building will be 20 years old in October, 2021.

This year’s capital items include:

  • $200,000 to replace the lobby and house carpet.
  • $45,000 to install a stairwell security enclosure.
  • $25,000 for handrail restoration and the removal of a wall at the entrance to the facility

The five year capital plan includes major items like the mechanical plant, new seating and a new roof.

“There is lots of activity happening on our capital project,. You’re going to see work going on,” Tannis Nelson Community Services Manager, Regional District of the North Okanagan, told Greater Vernon Advisory Committee members, at a recent meeting.

Carpet has been removed form the entire facility, with some of the less worn portions being donated for use by the Powerhouse Theatre. Installation of the new flooring should start mid month.

A safety enclosure is being constructed on the east volunteer stairwell for safety and to keep people from sheltering there. Handrails are being reinforced and pony wall in front of the building is being removed. That work is expected to be completed in June.
