A Vernon-North Okanagan police officer will face a RCMP conduct hearing in June.

Const. Greg Ternan is accused of six breaches of the RCMP Code of Conduct, and could be dismissed, depending on the outcome.

The allegations include four under section 4.2 and two under section 8.1.

Section 4.2 reads: “Members are diligent in the performance of their duties and the carrying out of their responsibilities, including taking appropriate action to aid any person who is exposed to potential, imminent or actual danger.”

Section 8.1 reads: “Members provide complete, accurate and timely accounts pertaining to the carrying out of their responsibilities, the performance of their duties, the conduct of investigations, the actions of other employees and the operation and administration of the Force.”

Const. Ternan’s hearing will include the commanding officer of RCMP’s “E” Division on June 21, according to the hearing schedule.

The hearings are open to the public.

The RCMP’s website said conduct hearings are initiated in cases where the member’s dismissal is being sought based on the overall circumstances of the allegations.

“Conduct hearings are formal, court-like processes that are held before a board of one or more persons. Boards have the legal authority to hear evidence, such as sworn testimony, to make determinations as required and, if the contravention(s) is established, to administer various conduct measures including dismissal,” the website stated.

Conduct hearings are open to the public.
