Suicide Hill name “insensitive”

It’s been commonly known as “Suicide Hill” for decades, getting its name from the steep downhill section, which was closed for safety reasons, following numerous daredevil stunts and vehicle wrecks.

“It’s insensitive to anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide and they don’t need a reminder. We shouldn’t be using it in our transportation documents” said councillor Akbal Mund. “It could be 30th Avenue Hill or something else, I’m not sure, but we can sort that out later. Perhaps the public have ideas.'”

Mund made a motion to stop calling it Suicide Hill which was supported by council.

“We need to replace it with something that people will use like they do with Hospital Hill, maybe Courthouse Hill,” suggested councillor Brian Quiring.
